nShift to launch nShift Emissions Tracker to make reporting easy

“Sustainable shopping” remains retail’s most pressing consumer trend.  Shoppers grow ever eco-conscious. And there’s constant pressure on retailers and ecommerce companies to show that they share their customers’ values.

But it isn’t just their immediate or end customers that retailers have to worry about.  Regulators require increasingly stringent reporting on the environmental impact of businesses within their purview.

The European Union’s (EU) Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) will take full effect by June 2024.   These new regulations will require some 50,000 companies that do business within EU to report on their past and present greenhouse gas emissions.

Under CSRD, businesses will be required to:

  • Prepare and submit a CSRD report – the first report being due in early 2025
  • Track and disclose the required information – which will include information on greenhouse gas emissions
  • Digital data and tagging – companies must digitally ‘tag’ their reported information according to a digital categorization system
  • Secure third-party assurance – much of the information must be assured by a sustainability reporting partner organization or auditor

The entire process could quickly become time consuming.  However, thanks to the launch of a new emissions-tracking solution in the autumn 2023, we can help retailers, web shops and warehouses keep the reporting process simple.

How nShift can help: the launch of nShift Emissions Tracker

nShift Emissions Tracker calculates and reports on emissions for all shipments in a single place.

The new solution helps businesses comply with CSRD, and reduce emissions, by:

  • Calculating and reporting emissions for all shipments in a single place
  • Reflecting best practices for tariff calculation, by using standard tariffs provided by the Network for Transport Measures (NTM)
  • Making sure that data for reporting is uniform across all carriers
  • Measuring emissions by CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent), a more accurate and comprehensive measure than CO2 alone
  • Calculating the tariff based on distance traveled and weight of shipment

nShift Emissions Tracker will be available as a new stand-alone product in the nShift delivery management suite this autumn. It will be compatible with products in the current suite and will be rolled out by the end of the year.

Although it is new to the market, the solution is based on nShift TMS’s emissions tariff engine which has a proven track record of success since the launch in 2020.  It conforms to EN16258, ISO14083 & GLEC framework.
