A smarter checkout for a new era of ecommerce.
Checkout is no longer just the final step of an online purchase. It has become one of the key deciding moments in the entire customer journey. Online shoppers increasingly expect a delivery experience that is flexible, transparent, and aligned with their lifestyles. They want accurate delivery promises, real-time updates, clear sustainability information, and the ability to choose between home delivery, lockers, or pick-up points without friction.
The updated nShift Checkout has been rebuilt to meet these expectations. It offers retailers the tools to personalize the delivery experience at scale, manage operational complexity, and stay resilient during the heaviest shopping periods.
We took partners on a deep dive into the updated Checkout at nShift Partner Day in Gothenburg on 13 November 2025, where we gathered ecommerce platforms, ERPs, WMS and payment providers, and carriers from across the Nordics. Read more about Partner Day and see the presentation from the day here.
Smarter, tailored options for every shopper
One of the most powerful enhancements in the updated Checkout is the rule engine, which gives retailers unprecedented control over what delivery options appear at checkout.
Instead of showing the same options to everyone, retailers can now easily tailor choices based on customer location, cart value, product category, time of day or customer segment. This ensures that each shopper sees delivery options that actually fit their situation. For example, a large furniture item can automatically trigger home delivery, while smaller items may present cost-effective locker options for urban customers. A loyal customer could be offered free expedited delivery, while first-time shoppers might see the most reliable standard choice.
The updated Checkout also supports continuous experimentation. Through built-in A/B testing, retailers can compare different delivery setups, such as fewer vs. more delivery choices, earlier cut-off times, or different sustainability messages and immediately see how these changes affect conversion. Instead of long development cycles, retailers can test and optimize in real time.

Dynamic fulfillment: Delivery promises that adjust automatically
Another major upgrade is the ability to dynamically update delivery promises during checkout. This means the delivery options shown to customers reflect the real operational situation behind the scenes.
If a parcel locker is full, Checkout can automatically show nearby lockers with availability* . This real-time responsiveness reduces bottlenecks, prevents failed deliveries, and keeps the customer experience smooth during periods of high demand. And because the updated Checkout has successfully been tested with more than 1,200 requests per second, it can maintain this level of intelligence and stability even during major peaks like Black Week, Cyber Monday, and Christmas season surges.
Developer-friendly implementation and flexibility
The new API introduces Sessions, which are valuable because they connect the shopper’s interactions across the checkout journey. This enables a more consistent experience and tracking of conversions.
Sessions also form the foundation for Experiments - the A/B testing feature that lets merchants test how different configuration changes impact conversion.
A clearer, faster, more transparent shopper experience
For shoppers, the nShift Checkout delivers a modern, streamlined experience. The interface is faster and more intuitive, helping customers select the right delivery option with confidence. Delivery times, costs, and sustainability impact are clearly shown, making the decision-making process easier and more transparent.
Because the options are tailored by the merchant, shoppers avoid the confusion of long lists or irrelevant services. And with real-time availability updates, they don’t face the frustration of selecting a locker that turns out to be full or a service that can’t meet the promised time.
The end result is a smoother checkout and a better overall customer experience.
Why it matters
The updated nShift Checkout provides retailers with a platform designed for the realities of modern ecommerce. It scales to handle extreme peak volumes, can be adapted as operational conditions change, and gives retailers the ability to test, personalize, and optimize the delivery experience continuously.
As demonstrated live at Partner Day 2025, this is a strategic upgrade that empowers retailers to turn delivery into a competitive advantage.
