The Challenge
OJ Electronics makes control systems for heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and ships them worldwide. When they implemented a new ERP system, Dynamics AX, in 2012, they saw an opportunity to enhance their operation by automating the transport booking process. The key was to find a delivery management platform that could be fully integrated with Dynamics AX, so that they could organize all their freight handling in one place.
The Solution
“By defining our shipping rules in [nShift], we are now able to automatically pick the cheapest or fastest freight option for our shipments, based on certain criteria,” says Brian Østergaard, Warehouse Manager at OJ Electronics. “This means we don’t make any manual mistakes when booking transport, and our warehouse employees don’t have to memorize shipping rules and figure out what freight option will be the best in every single situation.”
He continues: “We also pack our shipments in a more meaningful and safe way, as the system looks at how the shipment is packed in terms of weight and size and then decides the freight method. Previously we packed our shipments according to what we thought would be the cheapest freight option, which could result in splitting a shipment up into, say, 15 packages instead of gathering it on one pallet.”
