With more than 40 years of experience, System Transport provides logistics and fulfillment services to B2B and B2C businesses. As ecommerce expanded, growing order volumes, more customers and increasingly complex delivery requirements put pressure on its warehouse operations.
By 2022, System Transport had nearly doubled its business compared with 2017. To keep expanding, the company needed to rethink how orders moved through its warehouses and into shipping.
The challenge
System Transport had already invested in digitalization and automation across parts of its operations. As the business continued to grow, increasing volumes, a broader customer base and more complex fulfillment requirements began to put pressure on warehouse capacity and scalability.
The challenge was not to replace a predominantly manual operation, but to take an already well-established logistics setup to the next level. System Transport needed to make better use of its existing warehouse space, increase capacity and further connect warehouse and shipping processes without simply adding more space, resources and operational complexity as volumes grew.
This became particularly important as System Transport approached the capacity limits of its existing facilities. Rather than continuing to expand through additional warehouse space, the company saw automation and further digital integration as a way to create a more scalable foundation for future growth.
We had a setup that worked, but as volumes and complexity increased, it became clear that we couldn’t simply keep adding people and warehouse space. We needed a setup that could scale with our customers and make much better use of the capacity we already had.

The solution
System Transport partnered with Element Logic in 2022 to introduce AutoStore warehouse automation, using robotic storage and retrieval technology to make better use of warehouse space and reduce manual picking.
Today, two of its three main locations run AutoStore systems from Element Logic, in Roskilde and Vejle, Denmark.
Warehouse automation significantly increased picking capacity and made better use of the available space, but scaling fulfillment required more than optimizing the warehouse alone. System Transport also needed the flow from warehouse operations into shipping and delivery management to be increasingly connected and automated. Its order fulfillment process now looks like this:
Order → Warehouse management → AutoStore picking → Packing and sorting → nShift Ship → Carrier
When an order enters the warehouse management system, information is passed to AutoStore, which retrieves the products for picking. All AutoStore orders are controlled by the Element Logic Software Suite, which is integrated with System Transport's WMS. Once orders are packed and sorted, shipment information is transferred to nShift Ship.
Shipping and recipient information are linked in nShift Ship, so shipments are processed and tracking notifications go out automatically.
The results
At its Roskilde facility, System Transport doubled its initial AutoStore capacity just six months after implementation to meet demand, and it has kept roughly the same team as volumes grew.
The combination of robots and employees, along with significant space savings, gives System Transport’s customers the confidence and predictability to handle orders quickly, flexibly and with high quality, while also enabling them to expand their customers’ product range in the warehouse.

By integrating warehouse processes with nShift Ship, the company has reduced manual handovers between order processing and shipping. Fewer handovers mean fewer chances for manual errors, and faster operations.
System Transport's B2B and B2C customers benefit too: recipients get a tracking number as soon as an order ships.
Because AutoStore is modular, the company can take on more volume by expanding capacity within its existing locations, without pausing operations. With warehouse and shipping linked, the extra volume moves on to the carrier through nShift Ship.
The biggest change is not automation itself. It is the scalability it gives us. We can handle higher volumes, react much faster to ecommerce peaks and campaigns, and continue growing without adding complexity at the same pace.
