Helping retailers meet customer choices in sustainability

Helping retailers meet customer choices in sustainability

Sustainability matters. It promotes a healthier and more ethical way of living and helps ensure a better future for people and the planet.

As people become increasingly aware of the impact their choices have on the environment, they seek out products and brands that are eco-friendly and have a lower carbon footprint.

According to a study by Accenture, 63% of global consumers prefer to purchase products and services from companies that stand for a purpose that aligns with their values and beliefs. Furthermore, 62% of consumers are willing to switch brands if they find one that better aligns with their values.

For retailers, this means that being able to minimize the number of journeys and reduce traffic emissions is no longer a nice-to-have. They also need to demonstrate to consumers how they are embracing sustainability to match their passionate values. It’s no longer enough for a business to make platitudes about their sustainability credentials. Companies need to make their values clear and outline the steps they’re taking to show support for causes and how they’re making positive change.

Three new features

That’s why nShift recently launched two new features to help retailers show they share their customer desire for more sustainable delivery options. These are:

  • Positive Impact - The new Positive Impact feature from nShift enables online retailers to set up delivery options that trigger donations to good causes. It’s a move that not only supports ESG goals but is a great way for retailers to build sustainability into the delivery experience. Positive Impact supports a wide variety of causes worldwide. They range from restoring natural habitats and removing rubbish from the sea, to improving access to nutrition and education. In each case, customers can see what impact their donation will have. Meanwhile, retailers can monitor and report back on their cumulative impact.
  • Checkout Badges - nShift’s Checkout Badges provide additional visual cues to prompt sustainable choices. The badges, such as a green leaf, mark the most sustainable delivery methods at checkout.

Later this year, we will release Emissions Tracker which helps ecommerce companies and warehouses calculate, record, and analyze greenhouse gas emissions for every shipment. It enables companies to comply with environmental reporting requirements, and helps them to pinpoint opportunities for emissions reduction.

Shared values

Consumers care more about buying from – or even engaging with – brands that share their personal values and their ethics. It’s why offering these features will help deliver a better customer experience, improve customer satisfaction, build loyalty and create new revenue opportunities.
